your step is already logical. Some tools like Substance Painter can help you speed up wearing edges or stuff like that really well, almost automatic. I highly recommend Xuan Prada course if you're into more VFX/realistic texturing. His newest course can be found at TDU. He has a few tutorial with Digital Tutor which are…
Understandable. There are many approaches. In my experience, I only learn what's appropriate by trying them out, and learning the differences firsthand. Multiple tiling bitmaps is usually the best bet. But it depends on where the performance bottleneck is. If draw calls are too high, then you want to reduce the number of…
yup youre right lol sorry http://eat3d.com/free/vertex_painting this really shows it perfectly! thank you for sharing. also incase anyone else is keeping an eye on this thread...i found this http://www.hourences.com/tutorials-vtx-blending/ for 3ds max users.
Hourences' tutorial only shows straight vertex blending, so you get a linear gradient only. Tor Frick's Eat3D video shows how to use a mask with vertex paint, for more detail in the blends. Really cool! There are many approaches for this, see http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/MultiTexture#Modulation_Blending
Great thank you Eric for your indepth explanation. I have come across the issues of trying to reduce draw calls, by either reducing the amount of texture sheets used or by crunching models together but this was only used to work on augmented reality architecture scenes. I'll be sure to try out these tutorials and report…
Hi everyone hope you all had a great bank holiday! Thought I'd start this thread to help me better understand good texturing workflows and hopefully your knowledge and advice will help others too. I've done my research, Google, digital tutors, poly count wiki etc... Yes there are posts out there but they really go off…
