I think you need to properly re-work the design of this before going any further. At the moment there doesn't seem to be much consideration in to what the vehicles purpose is. Right I get ya, do you think that the state of the art military equipment is good inspiration to draw from? I'm not so sure, you say "unrefined armoured sportscar" and I immediately think this (granted this is a horribly cliche example, but you see where I'm going hopefully).
