So here is my problem, I watched many tutorials, but none seems to help. I am starting to think the problem is with my mesh. I am following this tutorial - http://cgi.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-bake-a-flawless-normal-map-in-3ds-max--cg-925. But my normal map looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/OCr5d0H.jpg Please note,…
@Silver Spade - are you making sure to switch from "bump" to "tangent space" in the bump node? VP 2.0 should display better than that (hopefully). I'd say as you get into unwrapping UVs a little more you have a better feel for how to break things up versus automapping. Keep it up!
So I think I've done the high poly for the mech. EDIT: Added the bolts. xD (Though sorry if they're not that visible in the shot). I will have to find a way to reduce the polycount. One way that I discovered was by putting the smoothed model into ZBrush and using ZRemesher. On another note, I will have to find a way to UV…
@Marko Richter: Nope, just 3ds Max. And your model looks nice, even proportions are right, only face could be a little flatter. Did you make it in zbrush or something else?
I feel like I shouldn't have even bothered with the high poly for the mech. None of this dents and scratches made it really worth while to sculpt in zbrush when an shadow map can convert over to them easily. Are the softer edges going to be that noticeable vs if I generate the normals for them?
butt_sahib: Still waiting for the link. xD On a side note, I'm still figuring out how to work on the low poly from the high poly. Then again, I could just use the high poly and delete the edges used for the corners. Still seeing people do a lot of fast and quality work (that, or people spend more time on their work among…
Quick question guys. Like, reallly, real quick. Should I share texture map with all these small pieces that simply repeat themselves ? They are small in nature, but they are at quite a focus point and they will be quite noticeable when I add more details to their texture. If they share same texture, will that cheapen the…
