Haha :D We are currently working on a script to supplement the tutorial. It automatically sets up the displacement for you in Maya, should be done in a few days :)
I had this same exact thought. Also, if Polycount was added to the list of communities and 3dmotive was added to the list of tutorial sites, then the random blank space would be filled!

Wow, thanks a ton guys for the lovely response so far. Overall we've had only good feedback on the site, which is very motivating. Of course, if any of you have suggestions on how we can improve or tutorial suggestions we're all ears :)
