Short answear substance can do everything ndo ddo does. So yes you can combine overlay normals for detail passes. Substance does not come plug and play from the get go though you need to make nodes/templates be warned about this a lot people see the samples and think you can work on that kind of template from the start.…
Yeah I made something like a "Ndo" ish node for Substance (it's basically just blurs, strokes and adjustments to your height map before you convert it to normal), but it's not that easy to do if you're a total noob with it. I think Allegorithmic could do with expanding their library a bit to cover these kinds of things.…
We kinda started that in the thread, but there was really only 4 or 5 added. Maybe we should come up with mini contests or competitions, or make a substance request list.
Another quick question to add on. When using substance designer are you able to edit normal maps like in ndo? Or just bake them? Substance is more of just a procedural base texture creator than it is a detailer, that's where substance painter will come in when it is released?
