This is why I hate hype for any game, people just end up making unrealistic expectations to the point where the game they expect to get is a complete fantasy.
I'm not sure that only revealing a little at a time does much to mitigate the hype. It's quantum game that could be anything or everything until some details are revealed to collapse the waveform.
I have no idea what you're responding to, but quite easily? Overhyping something prior to release can be disastrous, and the hype train for this was running pretty hard late last year...
Because hype! I saw a headline earlier stating that they were removing the "multiplayer" line from the box/marketing in some (european?) country, but I didn't read it. So they might be under some legal pressure.
This game is reminding me so much of Starbound. Everyone knows how hyped that game was before release, and all the talk of procedural content turned out to make a very shallow, boring experience. I hope the same isn't true for this.
I don't think it has anything to do with mitigating hype. The idea as far as I can understand it, is to just give players a little at a time so they aren't overwhelmed with the full picture and have time to appreciate each part before showing more
More fuel for the hype train: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTczqx-PWJU"]www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTczqx-PWJU[/ame] I bet Sony is pressing hard right now to acquire Hello Games, or at least get NMS as a full blown exclusive.
While they could have been better with communicating stuff and I'm on everybody's side who is experiencing technical problems.. people should start to understand that things promised months or even years before release are all subject to change. I'd really like to understand this hype culture as well.. I don't get it.
