I've been playing with the blending modes to try to come up with a way to do grimey glass. Dithered diffusion doesn't really work for glass, as the highlights get all gross. If you don't auto-darken the diffuse, you're no longer using a metalness map. The whole concept of the metalness map is that metalics do not have diffuse lighting (they do but like less than 1%), so you store only the specular intensity/color in the albedo. Cool sounds correct, I did some tests with a flashlight on multiple reflective surfaces to see if they would receive shadow, looks like mirrors don't receive shadows which makes sense to me as all the light is reflected back without any diffusion. I like to challenge that, as far as I know only pure metals have 100% metalness and do not have a diffuse contribution. Pure gold, silver, chrome, mirror, etc. But I think steel, titanium, etc. are actually have some percent not metal and actually do receive some diffuse lighting which in practice is most of the objects… -
