I think Snacuum has a good point with MGS, if the game makes you do something, and takes choice away, it can have more impact, there's an example of that in The Last of Us. -

The amazing thing about videogames is that they can literally be anything and everything the developers want. Games could be as deep as say Bioshock:Infinite or as hilariously unrealistic as something like Borderlands, and people will still love them.
