Dennis I feel that this texture reads more as a stone face than as palm bark. Perhaps it is because of the plateaus located at the top of each segment?
This was a character asset I worked on for a technical test at the beginning of the year, sort of forgot I had it so thought I might as well show it off! Nomad33 > pretty good for a first try! I'd say the metal lacks serious highlights and specular. It looks a bit flat, almost like stone. You should also apply a gradient to tune down the feet/legs. It attracts too much attention right now. The face is looking quite good as well but I'd say make it pop a little bit more.
