Good start dude, the first obvious crit would be that how each row of bricks lines up doesnt look right, they're too closely lined up on top of each other, no brick layer would lay them like that. However I'm really liking the bricks themselves :)
Before tweaking materials or working on the lighting you should get the scaling of the scene right :) The heater for example is way too small. Just compare it with the bricks. One brick stone has almost the same length as the heater.

can only see post #9 so I'll comment on that ;) I like the bricks, those will probably work well, I think the wood looks too wobbly tho. Also maybe break open a floor plank? Proper lighting can make this look killer when it's finished :) Keep goin'!

@Endfinity Jon Thanks so much great feedback, totally agree with everything you pointed out and taking it all on board. Had a few other people suggest things as well so I quickly blocked out on idea for how to fill some of that space and give more of a story to the scene. Gona have more of the destruction on the edges too…
