http://filmmakeriq.com/2011/04/20-lighting-tutorials-for-film-and-video/ (the linked site maybe not the thing you were looking for, but the site offers great tutorials you can then transfer to 3D - http://filmmakeriq.com/search-results/?q=lighting) ---- not especially for your scene, but I like these tutorials nonetheless…
Here's some progress on the sidewalk :) Started placing some assets in UDK. Being new to UDK I was having a hard time placing assets and organizing the scene until I found the Scene and Layers tab in the content browser window. Now everything is a lot easier and clearer :) What would be good tutorials to start with? When I…
Thank you for the advice, Treboras. Sounds like a good idea to do the road that way. The original location has these really interesting construction tags/markings on it so I was thinking of doing that with projectors but then I didn't know how to do the snow that's covered them. Are there any good tutorials on how to vert…
I'm another fan of written tutorials. I find it much easier to read over something and take it in then having to watch a video online, rewind it and play again. Same for any kind of walkthrough. Ideally we'd get both. :)

Hey, Good idea Treboras, I haven't painted in years :( Time to sharpen those painting skills, i guess. Lighting has always been one of my weakest disciplines, any good tutorials out there? Benjam, I agree with you about the polycount. Usually I'll pore over every last edge but earlier in this thread there was a discussion,…
Thank you for the encouraging words guys :) This has grown to be a multi month project and getting this great feedback is so encouraging. @Treboras, I know a lot of people diss them, but I like mayas stock tools the most. I tried my hand at roadkill and even 3DS but maya just feels intuitive :) @steppan, thank you for…
You can. You could do something like a lerp for 2 materials than lerp that again for another material. Just depends how you want to do it. I'd advise taking a close look at your material and really try to understand what's going on. It's not too bad, just requires a lot of logical thinking and a bit of basic math. If you…
