Geti not to take the fast paced combat away, but i still think a background might root it. maybe something like this , not to intrusive but would still make the player believe they where somewhere.

If you're looking for crits, my two would be that the smoke cloud after the main explosion is.. a bit too perfectly spherical - You're missing out on a chance to warp and deform it into more mushroom-y shapes.
