Can't recreate my original problem now, but from a sphere with no history, select some faces in uv editor, use the detach faces as new shell tool, then try to select some uv's I'm stuck in a weird marking menu. The history on the object seems to be messing up a lot of the tools.
I also noticed using some of the tools will cause the qwert to no longer work and you will be stuck in the translate tool. Detach selected faces caused this for me, deleting the history seems to fix it. Detach faces also detached all my faces instead of just the selected clump as a new shell.
