Hey all, just doing some self-marketing here :) This sword is a type of masonic sword that was originated in the 1800s. The block out, low poly and retopo was done in Maya, then further blocked out and polished in Zbrush. Textured 4k in Substance Painter and Rendered in Marmoset. Videos in 2k. Just stumbled over this: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Search&limit=500&offset=0&redirs=0&profile=default&search=Medieval+Sword+&uselang=de Tons of hi res images (around 5x4k in size) of different kinds of swords.
The sword blade is jet black -- does the red/blue image receive lighting information? Is it possible to make an unlit material with a cube map fed right into emissive? The sword will always have an image mapped on it (even in the shade) but it looks like that'd do the trick.
Hey, here's an update. Added some more detail in to the armor with a second layer under the main armor and some straps/a couple pouches. Also added the sword holder on his right shoulder, the sword is just a place holder for now. As always comments and critiques are welcome!
Man thats amazing. Btw, one minor nit pick: It doesn't look like the fingers are wrapping the sword. (In fact it doesn't even look like he has any grip on that sword imo). But you prob already know this. =) Great job non the less.
Gauss the "a uh... guy with a sword. and yes, i know that is not a normal place to sheath a sword, that's part of the the concept (COUGHCRICKETCOUGH)" face is absolutely brillant. Coloring on it is just perfect. I think these coupled with a few pages of pencils would be really good to do. Best of luck with the job.
Your designs have some really interesting details - the algae on the crab claw / handle, and the serpentine-like scales on the sword.. Too cool! One question though, is the yellow material on the sword supposed to be coral or gold? The shape is throwing me off a bit I think.
