Your "style" is mostly your flawed and/or bias way of looking at and interpreting reality. as everyone mentioned, just go with it and dont think that much about it.
It's based on incident angle to light. Essentially, NdotL + bias drives it. You have to set "shadow style" from multiply to ramp, for it to become active.
