lods are still standard practice nanite is amazing but it is not a magic bullet we still dont have enough memory for all the things because we fill it up with massive textures and buttloads of very dense meshes - you can't be lazier because you need to put more stuff in. a good lod is good for the same reasons a good lod…
Killzone is going from a single 1024 texture and 10k polys for a character to 6- 2048 textures and 40k polys. The coolest things about the Killzone demo are image based lighting with real time raytraced reflections.
6 polys... done! Some 80 poly trees. Seriously though, your professor is smoking crack. No one goes that low, unless they are only seen from a long distance. 600 to 3000 is more like it.

You remember in Episode 6 of Star Wars, how Lea said her mother was always sad, yet in episode 3, the mom actually dies!? Another random thought brought to you by this Random thread.
not so sure about that :P i expect spain, chile and switzerland to end up with 6 points each, and goal difference will decide who advances. and spain hasn't won against chile yet :P
The menu lock up problem sounds like a similar problem I had between MAX 6 and Ultramon. Are you using ultramon on a dual monitor setup? If you are, just update ultramon to the latest version.
12 pixels, wow. How low do your mips go? Or how big are your maps that 12px isn't that big? I thought 2-6 was standard. Maybe I need to get with the times...
