Re: Softimage/XSI- worth learning?
I use both it and 3ds. I like Softimage's Modeling Tools, to me they feel a lot more intuitive (simple ways to add loops, extrude polygons etc). -

Tonight I started a potion prop :) I'm surprised extrude made the curve follow the path exactly the way i wanted. Mostly eyeballing on the curve set up. -

You can use retopology tools and place polygon stripes on top of the handle mesh then use extrude to get some thickness. What do You use for modelling? -

maya dont do no shift extrude. well not out of the box. the Nex tool is a bit too sensitive and often catches me out when im shift selecting. -

Couldn't you do that with "keep faces together" turned off and using the offset attribute in extrude, or use "transform component" to scale several faces using their own centerpoint. -

for reals: my trim method sucks and it's a pain in the ass to unwrap: *Make big room *select faces to trim, inset x units and extrude down x units -

Day 7: I went a little further today on the body, sacrificing facial elements. I extruded the whole body from a sphere which I think was a mistake, I lost a lot of time, shape, and proportion compared to laying out the body with simple shapes and remeshing.
