SnowInChina - Still an improvement on my current system. :P Kwramm - I was thinking about some sort of date system, glad to see yours. I've heard of sorting projects my when they were made, as well. So basically it's: projects/yyyy/mm?/projectname but that gets awkward if you're making copies at later dates. On the other…
If excluding the space bashing kit you using in this video, I don't see nothing so exceptional in the modelling task (the quantity and quantity of nice preset in modo, natively or like plugin, is another nice feature). By my personal experience (stress this point, what I said is strictly IMHO) blender is more fast. I…
Once you have your mesh to a point in Zbrush that you would like to retopologize it, depending on the density of the mesh you might decimate it to a more manageable level using Decimation Master. You would then take that decimated mesh and export it either as an OBJ, or as an FBX file format. Now in Maya you would…
I am one of those guys who sees wasted potential. And i think i am much more radical than you. It would be OK if there where NO adaption because something which does not exist cannot be bad. I follow the principle of: if you want to do something, better do it right or don't do it at all. I am a perfectionist and i demand…
I found it generally useful for Character Artists. As a hard surface modeler, though, I get shadow artifacts on my guns because of the way the Normal map and the geometry's smoothing groups fight each other. I can't get my ninja normal map+smoothing groups combo moves translate well on p3d lol. But among other free online…
Thanks guy for the feedback, this helps me narrow down how I will organize my files for future reference, much appreciated. I should mention also that I'm trying to keep the Group's system in check, meaning I would like to know if using Groups is possible to keep my files a separation hierarchy to make things even more…
I would be happy if photoshops own 3d painting tools were more streamlined and less cluttered.I want adobe to just give me standard photoshop but let me paint on a 3d model instead of a 2d canvas and dont change any of the ui if thats possible.
It's a limitation we still have, you can work around it by including your layer in a group and create a white mask on this group. Then you can paint black on this new mask to erase some of that dirt. You can paint "more" dirt in your original mask though. We are working on making this process more streamlined.
Currently I'd say UDK is more flexible. BUT, that can come with a steeper learning curve. Say you wanted to do a cell shaded look, you would have better luck with UDK. However, sometimes starting out with UDK, it can be hard just getting a normal map to look good. The material editor is very technical and sometimes…
I agree with Joao. Don't distract from your focus. If you're striving for a job in 3D or game art you will undoubtedly be better off with the new more simple layout. I understand the other site had a lot of interesting things going on, and I can imagine it took a fair bit of work, but in my opinion, trash it. If you decide…
