Check that your lightmaps don't have any overlapping faces and that they are high enough resolution. Also, give each piece it's own lightmap UVs if you haven't already, even if they share the same UVs for textures.
It would be interesting to see it adapted for game use. Such as creating your lighting setup and rendering out lightmaps. We use 3dmsax for our lightmap rendering but of course, it's kind of slow. nifty tech either way.
create a second UV set and set the lightmap UV's to that UV channel through the static mesh viewer. If your lightmap UVs are set to an overlapping UV set you will get a lighting error.
Hey Brice, I tried baking a lightmap from a model with this shader applied but the lightmap comes up completely black. Can this be fixed or do cgfx shader not support mental ray baking?
I don't know what he wants to do with this machine...an i7 is more than enough for normal game production, but baking lightmaps with it is a pain in the ass! for lightmaps i woudl always try to get a small farm ..
That looks like lightmap problems. Are you baking the lighting? Do you have a second UV channel? Unreal 4 can now auto-create good lightmap uvs, check for it in the model browser.
Between having a laptop and being able to bake good, clean, high-resolution lightmaps in less than a second for a big-ish level on a machine that costs less than $2000, I'd choose the fast lightmaps all the way.
First I try to working with Blender, but, It seams me somewhat difficult the modelling part, so I´m going to stay a little more with Lightwave 3D. Lightwave 3D ZBrush Photoshop Here´s the hall process
Yes- otherwise, one unique mesh for the entire interior would mean everything would be crammed on one lightmap sheet, as nothing is instanced. Could be problematic unless you want to crank your lightmaps really high.
there seem to be some shadows on the ground plane, have you checked if the lightmap uvs are correct and the lightmap has an apropriate size? For Dynamic shadows activate cascaded shadow maps inside you dominant directional light.
