^he said in the post that he'd be changing it once he gets a new computer. I think it was more for practice sake, not for use, just to get an idea of spec/normal/diffuse. but you really should fix that when you get the chance.
Well if this isn't an argument for taking their classes, I don't know what is. Too bad that the bandwidth available in my country is not sufficient for streamed classes. Excellent work! A question on the chair: What is the miniature grey-scale map on the diffuse texture? AO?
Hey, not really a crit, just a pointer: I'd not focus on Lensflares right now or anything. Although it makes a lot of the Concept, the important part should be getting all and every detail in diffuse down first and then worry about lens artifacts and flares.
Are you setting the materials Diffusion to 'Unlit' and Reflectivity to 'None'? That should be all you need to do get an unlit render like in Max. You won't get the background gradient but you can just add that in Photoshop if you really want it.
You could set diffuse to black and put all color info in self illum, and disable self illum GI. But you would somehow need a lighting map to add direct light info in self illum channel. Not sure that's possible.
Love the sci fi scene, what was your general workflow for texturing all of that? I always wonder how with few texture details it can look so beautiful, is the diffuse just a plain colour and the spec has all the details? thanks!
Nice looking patterns people got going! Here's my progress so far. More of a generic marble wall. Ref: I'd really like to hit that rough diffused look like the ref, but it still feels too smooth atm.
This is a known issue (bug) with 16 bit files. To work around it you can save an 8-bit copy of the file and use that instead. For the most part you shouldn't see a difference between 8 and 16 bit diffuse/spec maps.
Wow thats a great thread wonkey, I was searching for free models to rig and put my portfolio up to date with what I learned as a 2+ years as a techartist/rigger in the industry. Downloaded the sheep model but unfortunately for me there's no diffuse texture... :'(
"-Green channel of the object-space normal map " Multiply blend mode? Can you show me what your gradient map looks like? I've never used them, that's probably why my diffuse looks so bleak.
