Somewhere I had seen Tidehunter with a killer whale skin, but in DOTA2's customize hero screen, I haven't seen anything about selecting a different skin. Does anyone know if this is possible or will everything submitted through the workshop need to additional objects "bolted on" to the heroes?
There's a .vmt command that makes them double sided though, and it is activated on certain heroes like Storm Spirit. Most heroes don't have it activated though so you should just assume you'll need to copy the faces and flip them yourself when budgeting the polycount.

@Marcus, when you import the hero files from the site you need to change the scale, I am not sure if it was 10 times bigger or smaller but here is a screenshot how big the grid should be compared to the hero model. If that doesnt help show us a screen of your viewport :)
