I think it's more a general term .. not only blender.. see here Autdesk Forum: 3DS max 2013 .. (It's even used in some more scientic paper about graphs in 1999.) -

No way around it. 2012 and 2013 have slow UV editor open and closing. Not sure about 2014. -

I'm using 3Dsmax 2013, and the Xoliul Shader doesn't work well with it, as far as I can remember.
