Thanks for the insight! :) However there's still something I don't quite understand. To bake multiple objects down to one single texture, you have to import all objects into one substance file, right? So I just have to add them together under Edit -> Project Configuration?
So the learning styles thing is interesting, but I don't think it's really an either or thing. For instance, let's take a hypothetical tutorial on how to make 3 point lighting. I could write the condensed version: * Add a key light to the upper left of the character * Add a rim light behind, and to the right of the…
I want to setup a basic light setup for an interior room in Maya using mental ray. Aiming for just a simple bright lit room. I just to render out some images and have a look at my shaders and textures I am using mental ray. Any suggestions welcome.
Tried putting the multiplier at 9999 and the emissive surface has a nit value of over 550 but the surfaces adjacent don't seem to be inheriting much light reading around 1 nit right against the light source. I've been switching between the mobility types and baking lighting but it looks as if the emissive surface is just…
Hi folks and happy Friday, First post on polycount so I wanted to start with something simple. There might already be a thread about this, but I guess my questions would be about lighting and rendering best practices. Its something I've always been a bit confused about. Below are just some speakers I modeled really…
Think about him as an enemy character in a game and how he might be presented. Maybe on first encounter he's a big shadow, backlit with moonlight with steam or fog rising around him. Very intimidating. Or maybe this is an enemy that player will face by the dozens, and they'll usually be pretty small on the screen. In…
So I have this weird light coming from underneath my meshes. I built everything and it's still there and when I delete all my spotlights etc it turns dark (of course) but the bottoms of all these meshes are still lit up for some reason. Does anyone know what might be causing this?
For right now you are going to want to show the texture at 100 percent bright so that all you are looking at is the texture. Right now you have it on 0 so all we see is some texture and max lighting. From what I do see it almost looks like you took the sketch and sort of transported it onto your texture. When painting…
Hey ladyknowles, Good progress since the last version! I think you could improve the result with a few changes, mainly reinforcing the focus point. I did a quick paintover to show what I mean: In short: - Deleted some books. I tend to think it's always best to use props sparingly as they'll have more impact that way. In…
At the first placed I worked, we had a few DIY light tables/boxes. We also had some really expensive light tables but quite a few people liked to make their own and customize it to fit their needs. Most looked like plastic topped small podiums with a cricular florescent bulb mounted inside. If you're thinking about…
