Yeah its all hand painted. I did at first try a combo of handpainted with photosource but it just didnt work.

Sure you can. They are separate controls, slope vs. handpainted alpha maps. You just have to wire the two results together.

Keep it up this is real fun. Rather than Bake an AO you could also handpaint it in to give it even more style and fun.

Do both. You can do straight up handpainted in PBR workflows: just turn off specular related options in shaders.
