Getting back into modelling so tried this smoke launcher shape. Would like to know any faster way of doing such mesh fusion type stuff in 3ds max and if my support loops fall into planar and efficient category. The one on far left gets the job done for me.
I think you misquoted me, look at the original post I quoted :D From what I've understood he meant something like this: I've added a bevel to demonstrate that you don't need any support edges Base geometry: SubD wires SubD Weights
Hey guys I´ve a very important question for Blender, How can u see in realtime your shading with non planar geometry. In 3ds max you can see this with these options: This is the result: soo in Blender these geo is non planar but you can´t see that in the default shading: If I apply a triangulate modifier it works I would…
Given the size of those seams/panels and how they will bake (even on a really large normal map) I would float them for sure. I think doing anything else would be a massive waste of time. If this were for film or something what I would do is first make a model like you have there and then re-topo it to get all those edge…
Here's how I did it: And one thing I learned from making handguns is to start with the back of the slide first, as that is usually the most complex part and you need the freedom of adding and removing loops to get it looking right. If you start from the front and work your way back, you will find that it is difficult to…
Thanks for the advice! Decided I needed to work on my workflow so modeled this red dot sight. I may sound like a noob, but this is the first model I have done where I have blocked out all the shapes before. I cannot stress how usefull it is! I also like to post on my 3D blog workflow stuff I do for future…
Hi hard surface modellers. I am trying to force myself to learn this my modelling this door. I know the shape is a little blobby, but I am more concerned with the topology of both the door and the curved inset piece. Is this is a good approach for something curved like this? I would like to make the curved part floating…
While i like this little challenge, i have to admit, I am not really sure why one would tackle this situation with such a lowpoly model. 4 sided cylinders will never be round enough to look like a drill hole. The whole problem solves itself whith using a 16 sided cylinder as a base and 8 sided cylinders for the cutout. Of…
@iacdxb @HAWK12HT Sure, for a deforming or sculpting ready mesh you'll have to have the topology to be ready for that. I shouldn't have worded my post in a manner that can be read as "Ngons are always fine". I would like to specify my solution to "Ngons are fine for details around flat areas on non-deforming hardsurface…
I've got a really simple question here. Something that should be easy to do, but for reasons unknown, I can't pull off without spending hours of tweaking to get things nice and clean. I need a quick primer on how to make swirls, like these, inside of Modo? I've tried a number of different tools, curve extrude being the…
