Shelves and custom hot keys are really awesome. I often find I've been modeling for hours without even once going switching to the modeling menu set. I am pretty certain there are Matcaps for zbrush that can replicate this style and if not wouldnt be crazy complex to replicate. But yeah its important to test things early in as close as final shading as possible. These days you could possibly also just send a slightly lower subdiv level into your engine of choice and… -

If you use it a lot, you might wanna make a mel shortcut on your shelf using performPolyDeleteElements; Or even assign a hotkey to it. -

Try looking in highend3d.com...I found a MEL utility that could convert texture nodes and relink the files as well as converting them. -
