it can be pretty fast to model, with only a few rows(like less than 10) its less than a minute to whip one of those up for me, so not really saving a lot of time fiddling with creating the pattern, getting the scale right, lining it up correctly, dealing with any seams etc in ps, and finally generating the normals, all of… -

Agreed with the cintiq as well. I've been using one at work forever and wouldn't trade it for anything. It definitely sped me up. I've taken a decent tablet pc with the pressure sensitive pen out on trips and it's great for doing some photoshop\painter sketching at the coffee shop but it's just not mean enough for any… -

I myself think that max is designed to be used for the mouse hence the best experience imo is gained with a 3 button mouse with scroll wheel. The only option I know is the brush (push, pull, relax,...) stuff that supports tablet input (at least I think so). If you want to get out more with your tablet using max, maya,… -

OK, figured it out, and bought the software. Basically I split it up in Photoshop. Also figured out how to get a tiled heightmap... feed it a tiled image, erode, output. Feed it the same image but half-offset first, erode, output. Then stitch the two together in PS to eliminate edge-erosion seam. I like how Battlefield 2… -
