Well I tried clusters but it didnt work. Then I decided to look for some scripts which could allow me to do that but then I just found that maya has a feature called "point on poly" in constrain options and it worked well. I used maya 2011
passerby: Very helpful, thanks a lot! marks: Thanks. Zhalktis: I am using Max at work, but I mostly write python scripts/plugins for modo. I have a few ideas for tools that would be nice to have in Max though, so that would be a bonus.
Well hes played around with it enough to where he feels comfortable to learn the scripting. I've researched a few engines and there's a poop load of docs so i think that aspect is covered. garage games has come really far over the last couple years.
Thanks, everyone :) OddEyes: For the parts that I didn't sculpt in ZBrush I used this 3ds max script created by John Martini. And for the pieces I sculpted in ZBrush for some of the seams I used standard ClayTubes brush and for some other I used this custom brush.
UPDATE: We are moving our assets to Unreal Engine 4, so note that we are no longer requiring you to have Unreal Script Knowledge, everything is coded with C++ so if you have experience with C++ writing codes then please don't hesitate to contact us...
@Obscura I do not know if Zbrush allos that but I'm pretty sure I can put together a quick little script in Max to assign random colors to sub element in a mesh which should accomplish the same thing if I understand your idea correctly!
Yup a coworker installed it and it was not 'plugged' somehow. He managed to manually edit the script to make it work - but he's on holidays this week. I'll sure ask him as soon as he is back. So yeah the tool works, it's not as convenient and integrated as Max's yet but it's a step in the right direction.
First of all i recommend this plugin for texture path isssues: http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/downloads/scripts-plugins/rendering/misc/c/filetexturemanager Apart from that i'd check the project settings from your maya installation. Not sure if this can fix the problem frm there.
Only thing I can think of is boomerlabs. http://www.boomerlabs.com/cart/product.php?productid=4&cat=2&page=1 Jim Jagger has his BBC radio thing... might be a scripted viewport, dunno. Ripping to a wav file is pretty painless though.
glueit supports alpha 8 bit channels and creates sprite sheets: http://sysimage.250free.com/ Other tools that can create sprite sheets but that don't support 8bit alpha channels are xnView, Acdsee and there are also some photoshop scripts out there to do that kind of stuff.
