it only updates textures automatically for now. meshes are self-contained withing the scene file and do not update automatically as far as i know.

Yes, the DDS's only contain the green and red channel, blue is pretty useless but it's still compiled with the shader to save up memory space.

mesh edits alter component order immediately so that comparison wouldn't work . Does the tweak node (or equivalent) contain that sort of information ?

Working entirely off the grid (with walls/floors, etc.) leads to gaps and holes in my experience. But Self contained details are usually ok
