Making trees at 60 triangles is definitely possible. These ones range from (IIRC) 6 to 75 or so triangles. As for gothic stuff... a dead tree trunk with a lot of dead branches. you model the trunk and some very rudimentary thick branches, and then add a lot of small stuff in with planes. A weeping willow might work well… -

The major difference though is that UDK wasn't totally free for commercial use either, and carried its own license/royalty costs when used for profit. It's an awful idea and I'll tell you why. The only realistic why of judging it would be from other players, but players give you bad rep and report you etc out of spite. A prime example is me playing Street Fighter 4. I'm good at Street Fighter, probably better than any other game, and I beat the majority of people online.… -

For modeling, I love it, very quick, light and intuitive. But its not the end all-be all to the 3D packages. Its a modeling tool. It really depends on how intense the modeling is going to be if I really need to fire it up. Most of the time I should be using it, I don't because it is a separate app and I figure why bother…
