update: solved, kind of. not worth investigating because advanced skeleton actually has a blendshape correction wizard, which if you use, makes it so that this problem isn't a problem. I had been adjusting the blendshapes manually. if using sculpting brushes on a non-skinned model, you can toggle the display so that the…
Hi, I’m Neil Gallagher and I’m one of the Lecturers at the University of Hertfordshire, I look after Games Art and Design BA & MA. Well done for posting here, I wish more students were like you before they go of for their interviews. You mentioned some great courses above, also check out the Creative Skillset website as it…
How about "Ten games that sold the most of 2004" Between me and my flatmates, we own 7 of the 10 there. They are all enjoyable games. I would have put HL2 above Rome TW though... and IMHO Call of Duty should be on there instead of BF:Vietnam (or did CoD come out in 2003, i can't remember)... Still a list of games worth…
Sorry I should have clarified. The script is only for single objects. I picked Meshsmooth because that's a modifier that I never use and I didn't really know a better way to phrase that part of the script. All it's supposed to do is collapse the modifier with the highest index to the base node. so for example in this image…
You did a great job for your first asset! If you are looking for some help getting good renders out of Marmoset they have a bunch of tutorials on their website to help with that: https://www.marmoset.co/toolbag/learn. Look at some of the GDC videos too. However, a lot what is required to get good lighting, rendering, and…
I love Nvil and use it exclusively for SubD modeling after many years with Maya. Its getting monthly updates...and the developer is listening to good ideas if you have them. I am of the opinion that if you understand the core concept of streamline tools, you will be able to model faster then in any other application.…
If you're going into some over the top or superhero-ish fight animations and are looking at live action movie references, be aware of cables used to pull actors back after being power punched in the face. When animating always make sure to know where the force is coming from so you can work with a reference like that…
World Machine ftw, put a bit of time into learning it and the results will be totally worth it. It basically gives you awesome flow maps and natural wear channels for free, which is priceless when megatexturing (you can see the signature erosion flow paths quite clearly in many Rage terrain shots). It's not difficult to…
Imho if your just modeling, texturing and rendering then you can't go wrong with modo. It's a great modeler, has a fast renderer and has some decent painting tools. Other applications would be: C4D also has bodypaint built. Lightwave also as a new version which is a complete rewrite of its core coming out in a few months.…
