Something doesn't quite feel right about those rocks in my [amateur] opinion. I don't want to rile the Mudbox lovers here but almost every sculpt I see in Mudbox seems to have a little too much 'squishiness', even the most impressive sculpts still look a little blobby I think, and those rocks kinda have that a bit. Is…
Adam this thread is incredible. Firstly, thank you for going into such detail and keeping us all informed as to the way you've done each little bit. Not only is this an amazing looking environment piece, it's one huge learning tool for everyone. Just a couple of quick questions, I know 1432 people have asked about the…
looking great :) I like that it all is kinda realistic, but from close look u got some stylized texture work on that. But don't u find the rocks being a bit too bright/white? Just to me they look now kinda like burned white plastic. Maybe just some darker grayish tone would fix that ;)
Some updates! Lighting, art placement contrast and 90% through the highpoly pass for the rock cliff faces. Lighting & art placement contrast I've taken a lot of props out and placed them more 'strategically' as to dry the eye around the image. The biggest difference is how I'm doing my grass on the terrain. I'll no longer…
whoa, those trees are crazy, definitely looks more like an evil genious's hidden forest base now. They kinda throw the scale off though. If i think about just the rocks and fog volume, the scene has a much grander scale, when i think about the foliage it suddenly shrinks down. Sure you're workin' on it though, keep it…
adam: not to be annoying but could you post a zoom in of just the nodes so I can read the names easier? I was going to do a draw over of a suggested node setup I did recently but I cant tell which nodes are which at the small size sorry about the confusion about your rocks/water. Im glad your clarified that more.
vrav: Sorry im talking about unreal shader stuff...if hes doing a real time environment might as well make some interesting shaders that do more blends and crap right? its not as complicated as it sounds if adam knows the material nodes. He should know what im talking about (hopefully) SHORT ANSWER: Make moss >>to dirt>>to…
hmm adam, not to knock it but right now that water is really lacking. I believe having a nice overlay of ripples into more points of it and more of a darkish blue tint (not so see through but more opaq') A nice simple set of instructions with a paramter node and a few tiling Tex cordinates based of that lerped together…
Looking awesome, but you've been holding out on that camera update for 2 months!?! I like the new camera redesign. It's not as futuristic and abstract which is a good thing in my opinion. Watch tower is looking good too but I wish you'd give us a render of the final instead of having it way in the back of those pictures!…
Amazing work, I think those are the best looking rocks I've ever seen. This project is massively inspirational and helpful on so many levels, sharing even your planning workflow is awesome. Thanks! Looking forward to seeing this one progress! I do have one hugely important, totally relevant and entirely critical question…
