awesome stuff Chai and sinister! just started learning gtkradiant two days ago and it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to be able to make a map and run around in it, even if it is good old quake 3! much more to do of course :)
First of 3 film studies before i go back and take a serious look at anatomy! - Also thanks a bunch guys! but all they really are is copys from the reference unfortunately, aint good enough yet to do this shit on my own :<
I'm working on this: Any crits are welcome.. I used it to tone my high res modeling and workflow with xnormal + crazybump to get good results. 3^1024 maps .. diffuse, spec, and normal. 227 tris (max reporting after being triangulated).
Did an art test for Turn10. Good enough to score an interview at least. The specs were 700tris for LOD1, 50% for LOD2, then box-silhouette for LOD3. Diffuse is actually 1024, AO was 512. The UV's for the AO chan (3) are also used for realtime lighting.
more skin tone practice. may stick it on a 3d model when i get time. haven't done this kind of stuff for about 3 years, amazing how your skills are lost so easily this one was done in pshop6 with airbrush and smudge tool
I definetly like it toast, being a fan of the alien series, Im looking forward to the finished piece. I did something close to that about 3 years ago...never finished it though. I only got as far as the geometry. http://www.zerafian.com/3DImages/ENVIRONMENTpic.jpg
Nah, go for it japh. They work much better than you would expect -- check out Company of Heroes or Age of Empires 3. Just gotta be smart about what details you put into the normal map, and maybe tweak it by hand a bit ala pior :)
Cheers for the kind words, folks! pior: I used the 'Thick Pencil' brush from Natural Brushes 2 for these. I turned off opacity and set stroke width to pen pressure. Give it a go! Davision3d + Ged: They're about 90 percent 3d. I thought if it was good enough for Hawkprey then I'd give it a go. They're not that time…
Hehe cheers! I knocked up a forth one based off of a different sillouette and im gunna work on all bar the top right one some more! I'd love to see it modeled and ill probably have a better modelsheet in a few days and ill probably post that here too! <3
lol Yes, learning anatomy would be helpful. It should come before you start messing around in 3-D programs. That said, it looks like you have some potential, so I think you could benefit greatly from some good anatomy studies and human face references for next time.
