Working on a new rock now. I tried baking the normal map on the low poly mesh (image above), but after baking I noticed a bunch of spots that still were lacking a lot of detail, so I'll go back to ZBrush and fix those areas, then start working on the textures!
Jonas, could you made a tutorial, how to sculpt those rocks? I mean, even without commentary. Next time, when you will be sculpting rocks, start ZBrush, and start recording. Then put 1-2 h long video on YT. I'd love to see this ^^ Magnificent job.
Hey guys, it's my first post here in the Polycount Forum. There's a lot of good pieces here! I've started making rocks for about 2/3 days in Zbrush and i learned a lot with it! Here are the rocks i've made: (I'm currently working on the low poly version of the rock in the last image)
I guess a common mistake myself and many others do with this workflow, is that we put in too much middle sized detail in zbrush, so when using many pieces like above to create a mountain etc it usually gets too noisy, this time I tried to keep it down. btw thanks :)
I am only a beginner zBrush user myself, but to me it feels like a tablet is essential, especially for that fine detail. Can you control intensity with a mouse? Maybe look into one of the monoprice tablets: http://www.monoprice.com/Search/Index?keyword=tablet Also- your rocks are looking great so far!
ok so I made this rock in zbrush: SB_rock1_13122013 by sprunghunt, on Flickr I made it late at night using a combination of extrusion and polygroups to get the big forms. Flatten and other brushes were used to refine them. However I can't figure out how to reproduce the initial effect! It's driving me nuts.
Working on some heavy stylized rocks: I used a simple box as a base which I then fractured into chunks with PhysX Destruction and then picked the best locking chunks and arranged them to this rock formation and then sculpted mostly just the details in the Zbrush. This is how it looks in the game in UE4, still not sure how…
I remember loading a texture as derivative by mistake. I just couldn't believe the results. I spent the next hour or so loading random textures just to see what they would look like :poly124: I am still to convert them into heightmap and import them into Zbrush. I was not thinking about it at the time.
So much amazing inspiration in this thread. As an aspiring environment artist, you guys have given me a lot to strive for. Here is the third rock I've created in ZBrush, images are the low poly that sits around 1500 tris with just the normal on it so far. Currently working on baking the rest of the maps then I'll be off to…
ahh sorry I assumed for some reason it was Zbrush haha. im not a big fan of mudbox for sculpting but at least it doesn't crash every ten minutes, I like it for painting though. try out the scrape brush with the rotated cloud alpha stamp turned on and turn randomize on, should be able to get some good shapes with that
