3d Total has some good tutorials. Unfortunatly nothing for Blender (from what I can see.) http://www.3dtotal.com/ If you are a student, Autodesk is giving students a free 3 year license with a valid school e-mail address for pretty much any program. http://students.autodesk.com/ Cgtuts+ has alot of good tutorials as well,…
Digitaltutors.com has a DVD on it and some free tutorials up. One of my previous coworkers bought the DVD and he seemed happy with it. It's Maya oriented, though (not sure what your app is). Rendering tools are much more frequently discussed over at CGTalk and Highend3d.com.
absolutely true... they are on the money... we just hired a guy here with a similar portfolio, but he also had a bunch of game art as well to compliment it. we appreciated that he was an artist first and a game artist second... the other factor that is in effect when looking to get your foot in the door that i didnt see…
I remember seeing the reference on CGTalk a few months ago. It was pretty inspirational, which is the roll it plays in this piece as well. He took a render of a high poly scene and converted it to UE3, pretty faithfully. Nicely done =) I don't see how this is any different then working off of any other ref. It might be bad…

Surely mapping to a strip of polys then bending is effectively the same as straightening UVs since both methods involve the same radial distortion ultimately,…
BTW about the ebook part. Have you guys seen Kindles/Nooks? E-ink looks a LOT less tiring to the eyes than backlit LCD. Granted its not color but I could see myself reading for a while on a Kindle, not so much on a iphone/ipad. You guys should check out these ebooks, they look almost irreal when you see them IRL. Peris…
right I can't believe no-one has said this yet: You're doing it wrong. This is a very wrong way to model. What people have said, I'll echo: Check out the tutorials that come with 3d studio max and google for some introductory tutorials like these: http://cg.tutsplus.com/category/tutorials/autodesk-3ds-max/?tag=basix…
A quick texture from cgtextures.com adds a nice path to the middle of my scene. More details! I think I might make this a playable walk through scene with small interactions..... might be nice...
