Depends on alot :) . Are you looking to make realistic or stylized textures? Being able to paint/create your own textures is great, I encourage you to practice that. But using photos as a base is also ok. In the past you would normally just head over to CGTextures and grab some base reference from there.…
Maybe for some detail/ noise overlay, bur there is no reason why you would need photos for texturing. Can't speak for majority, but I know I use real photos to achieve real results. Also something like Megascans, or Textures.com (improved CGtextures) wouldn't become a thing if others didn't too. I think they don't use any…
Not qualified to talk about environments, they're my weak point. But some things I can give my 2 cents on! - Tablets Definitely get one. They're great, a completely different experience to trying to use a mouse. The pressure and tilt sensors on higher end ones just make the experience so smooth (though if you're a…
There's (at least) one blatant CGtexture in the early level/s, see if you can spot it. It's on a minor prop (Which is fair enough, they're indie devs... if this were AAA though then I'd actually list this as a crit)
sltrOlsson: Seen that thread already and was quite informative to solve another, more annoying, problem I came across during the buildup Process. Thank you nonetheless! General: *fuuuuuuuuu* I just noticed they had a "Hardcore Modelling Challenge: SciFi Icon" on CGTalk running which ended on March 15th... Ah well...…
@cgartland Thanks! I will definitely do more polished paintings like that last one! They just take me a long time to finish so I don't have many of them yet, haha. @axxix3 Thank you, and you will most certainly see some comic work from me on here!
VP2.0 using DX11 is pretty amazing for viewport modeling and viewing. You can also use the new Shader FX, DX11, or CGFX shaderss depending on what you are doing to get a virtually perfect redition of your model as it will be in your game engine. It takes some time to learn but the results are worth the effort imho. In…
There are definitely some parts that are well executed, however its looking a little plain. The materials don't really look tangible. Looks a little CGish.
Hey Ryan, The first thing I notice is a very clear progression on your overall environment skills, which is great to see. The latest environment(I believe it was a monthly challenge) shows a lot of improvement from the others. That being said, I think everything done before that is too weak to be on a portfolio. Consider…
