No, Mark I think you've pretty much nailed it. We have a team of Env artists but i'm split for example into a modeling team that is dedicated to key assets, collision/physics, outsourced assets, etc working directly with asset components vs the Env Team that handles the level pushing.
I like that Valve is outsourcing their idea department to the public; reading the TF2 boards there are already many good ideas being thrown around. Still waiting for the Spy updates. I remember seeing a hoax update for the spy that had some awesome achievments named after Bond movies.
Cinematic guys are more likely to have things in common with movie vfx studios, animated movies, etc. And most of the time it is outsourced. Also I have a feeling more and more studios are going to do cinematics in engine. There's other forums out there if you want to get into that kind of work.
Hey Bartalon, Congrats on v5 release. I've only spent 15 minutes with the latest version but am not seeing the adjustable width feature. Did this make it into the release build? Sadly I am still having to deal with long material names especially from outsourcers ! Thanks in advance.
I am a pro. Working in a game art outsource company as Character artist. My responsibilities are making High and lowpoly characters and Textures for game resolution. We are working on artwork for next and current gen games. Also I do some concept art for myself as it's my hobby.
I tried to take it but it doesn't seem very open to people who are self-employed. The answers probably would have been unusable...I do technically deal with outsourcing daily but from the other side. And yeah, some of the questions are worded oddly. I don't not, NOT recommend this job.
Hello ! I am looking for freelance/outsourcing work, I have a very good grasp of modelling and texturing for hardsurface assets, both for next-gen PBR workflows or mobile. I might also be interested to relocate if the right opportunity arises. Portfolio: www.robertdeleanu.com Contact: justgountil [at] gmail.com
since when does 'made in germany' equal 'quality' in video games production? ;) it looks like these guys just act as a publisher for stuff outsourced to the lowest bidder in eastern europe. don't get your hopes up just now - better check if JA2 still runs on a modern computer... ;)
We've been doing outsourcing for almost 9 years and we've never gotten as many requests as we are now. I'm seeing a huge upswing. Some of that might be related to us being more well known these days and having a solid track record but there's no shortage of funds or projects in the games industry.
We created 9 LowPoly tanks, Normal baking and PBR texturing them. To see turnable models and more images please take a look at our website: www.cube-master.com We are available as an outsource team to cooperation with you to make your big projects happen by better rate and time.
