What you describe is exactly how to do it, so it's probably a Maya problem not a you problem> I've had some tools mess up randomly Maya before, including extrude. I'd agree with that list, if it's film I would put Nuke in there as well as Mari, picking up a little bit of scripting will help you out too, something broad like Python. You mean this FAQ? That's the licensing system for every Foundry product that's not Modo. You would only have to go through that with Mari, Nuke, Hiero, etc. etc. Modo still uses the licensing system from the old Luxology days. Also if you're not a rigger, I'm puzzled as to why you're concerned about the rigging system...…
