Smoothing groups are awesome for high poly modeling prototyping. You just select the faces, give diff smoothing groups, apply a meshsmooth set to smoothing groups and voila you have a blockout that you can edit in realtime that will hold well once smoothed again. I cant honestly think of a better and faster way than doing…
Anatomyyyy is the way to go. Regardless of the characters you want to make, learning anatomy and practising it in drawing or sculpting will help you understand forms in 3d, how the body works and get you practicing sculpting in the meantime. I always recommend the same 3 books for beginners (at the bottom) and working from…
Hi all, I have a few questions around building and using modular kits for environment layout. 1. How critical is it for a modular environment to be fully closed off? Meaning, all assets snapping cleanly to the grid with no protruding geometry outside of the layout of the scene? In cinematic work, I’ve often prioritized…
Hello, Made a new stylized character modeling practice, rendered in Unreal engine 5. Also tried to practice posing characters more this time. More pictures in my Artstation: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/lGn8ee
Hey everyone, I'm working on my portfolio and would appreciate your help! I'd love to get some feedback on this stylized diorama I've been working on in Blender. I am practicing optimization and it has about 47k tris, is it too much? I’d also love some advice on texture setup. How many texture sets would you recommend for…
Hello everyone. My name is Nikos.I am an environment artist mainly but recently i decided to take character modeling more seriously. Having read quite many guides and books i started practising on making base meshes so i can learn more about proportions and silhouette. Down here you can see my first effort.I'm sure it…
Thank you guys for the kind words! <3 And no worry Dabou, I should've shown in the previous comments what concept I was following so no confusions would happen. I slowed down in the end of the year but got back into studying and practicing earlier this yes. I remade yet again my skull study and went a bit further by…
That’s actually a useful way of looking at it. The idea of a quick, at-a-glance indicator is something I’ve been thinking about as well, especially since a full breakdown isn’t always practical in every context. Where I’ve struggled with that approach is exactly what you pointed out, how to consistently value different…
New character study/practice. I chose Tooth Wu concept art because I wanted to make something a bit more different then before and the character design was just too cool. Also I could practice some stylized anatomy and hand painting. Check for more on my Artstation profile.
