One little bit of context related to the naming : IIRC around the time of the acquisition of Maya by Autodesk, the term "polygon" got replaced by "mesh" (probably because renaming "edit polygons" into "edit mesh" would then sound a lot like Max's own "Edit Mesh" mode/modifier). Ensure that your model uses the same mesh group names as the DDO project itself, e.g. the meshes within the exported OBJ/FBX match the naming convention used by DDO. Yeah that worked. I renamed the model to combine_soldier in the main model directory and it works fine so I'm guessing the new models need to be coded in before the game will recognise them as players. Which seems a little odd that HL2's Plugin Player Model support is so limited to simply replacing the original models...… -

It might just be that your game exporter and game support it fine, but Max does not. If you're concerned about previewing the art before export, then use a different bitmap format like TGA, replacing it with PNG before export.
