Yes, this can be confusing to solve. The optimal solution depends on many factors. If you are making a model only for portfolio display, then the approach does not really matter. Local subdivisions have always been intense, especially when Level 0 is already pushing several million polygons. Probably because unlike straight up subdivision, local subdivision has to try and make the topology flow into the remaining 99% of the model along whatever crazy outline is specified. I caved in and switched to Photoshop because I know exactly what the brush is going to do and I was not able to achieve detail with Painter so easily. Hi Zander, I have used Body Paint for some years and I just recently switched over to 3D Coat which is as just as good. Body Paint around $900 and 3D Coat around $349. I also use it for a scultping tool but that is not as good as zBrush. Download the trial and see what works. They also have a hobby version that is only $99… -
