The reason it looks more scifi is because there isn't a lot of construction detail. It needs bolts, screws, various seams in the wood and stuff like that before it'll look realistic. That and the pipe thingey at the bottom... -

Noooo, he is one of my favorite authors, "Consider Phlebas" is always going to be one of my favorite scifi-books. So many of his books are so inspiring with lots of interesting ideas.
