so this is okay as a baselayer. imo for a crate a 1024² texture is far enough, so you wont get lost in details wich wont be visible in the end. now that we got this settled you should start adding ambient occlusion and sctratches. so ambient occlusion means that in all the inward facing corners of your model, your texture… -

some quick polypaint tests at lunch - tried a bit of *brush tool* cavitymasking, but found it worked better to use the *mask tool* with cavity masking and then a bit of blur to "drybrush" into recesses.
