In Maya, "Smoothing Groups" are defined by soft edges and hard edges instead. A slightly different way to define where vertex normals should split, but essentially the same thing. In other words, the edge that seam lies on is not a hard edge, is it? -

You can do that for quick results, but it's best to define the materials properly. A gloss map can often be fields of solid colour, defining where you have different materials on the model, ex. metal, wood, etc. -

hah, thanks for the replies. that's somewhat of a relief. so kind of a grey area in a nutshell. but good to know i can get away with it by slight modifications :) . yeah im definately not including their logo or name, and definately making some improvisational changes. -

Thanks @Martijn. First, I try and find blueprints as it helps to define the shapes quicker, although they aren't always accurate. Thanks for the crits Mossbros, yeah I definately need to work on defining the forms of my character studies without relying on linework. The lines at the moment are definitely quite OTT, I need to work on a different method for rendering this stuff :) -

Copied this painting as a study. Tried different ways in describing form and shadow. Phase 02 of the process. Shadowed the scarf and polished the fur on the coat. 3 - Polished the coat, more defined the fur, and define the lip to make it more pronounced. -

When working on texture maps you really should work on all of them at the same time to define the required material properties. Generally I go from big to small, defining the color, specular and roughness as a "base" and start detailing from there. -

I think he is just saying it's not "stealing", nor "theft", he didn't say it's not illegal or immoral, or wrong. Makkon, maybe... Swindle, larceny, fraud are words used to define other law infringements that "theft" or "stealing" would not precisely define. -

Yeah waking life is definately an awesome mind trip, definately recommend that to anyone who is able to stand the very lose rotoscoping, i know some people have complained that the visual style makes them sick watching it too long.
