probably not, time = money so tools that reduce time means less ballooning budgets. I don't work in AAA games, I'm used to 1 week or less turnaround on characters. A few recent threads put AAA character turn around at an average 4-5 weeks. If tools can reduce the time to make a AAA next-gen character to the time it takes… -

This +2 lol. I would like to add, like perna said, you dont have to model out transitions. If you are baking down, then just clean up transition in photoshop if you are picky about the intersections. Vertigo he is saying that you're diffuse(aka color) and specular textures are not helping your model. You're trying to make your normals do all the work and they don't.
