Ah, awesome! Thanks @Obscura Been waiting for this for a while :P Certainly seems way simpler. So in this case you are still using floaters, not cutting into the base mesh right? I remember some issues with lightmaps happening before, I assume that would persist with this method also?
Hey guys! I was discussing the placement of floating geo on more awkward shapes with Joost the other day and came up with a solution which worked pretty well. I haven't seen it anywhere before so I thought I'd do a little write up of the technique. I realise you could really easily do the same using NDo, but I know a lot…
The same what earthquake said about the gun itself applies to the mag. You got too sharp edges there, which wont render to your normal map and you wont get that nice round edge look everybody wants from a normal map bake The same applies for the optic system and some other parts. Also you might want to check how those…
Ok so I was away for the weekend (Leeds is a nice place!) and couldn't work on this until now. OBJ: Here Modelled up the panel today, used floaters for the text and the buttons are also floating along with those little button hoods. I know thats not how it is on the actual model but I'm trying to start and work faster and…
Bump So I tried baking an ambient occlusion map in xnormal using a cage and got some more weird artifacting going on (First image) you can see some artifacts around the recessed parts of the image as well as strand of highlight running through an area that should be shaded (may be difficult to see) Second image shows the…
I'm having an odd problem with explode and my naming conventions. Explode does not seem to recognize my named groups. (max '11) I have: LP_elec box HP_elec box HP_elec box_floaters When I explode, LP_elec box and HP_elec box explode together fine. But HP_elec box_floaters is left behind like a piece of low poly geometry…
I dont know for now where its stored but I assume somewhere in the user Directory, usually to folders above this maxscript result:url =(pathConfig.GetDir #userMacros);shellLaunch "explorer.exe" url; but if you have to change / refresh frequently your seat or computer it could be an idea to create a custom maxscript floater…
There will be a icon in the main toolbar that looks like a little magnet it will have a number next to it, make sure its set to 3 for 3D snaps. Then you have to set what you want to snap to (edges, faces verts) You can right click the 3D Snap button and a floater will appear. In that same floater there is a options tab,…
how would I go about detailing the grip (cross-hatch patten). My only thought, beside sculpting is floaters, would I be going in the right direction? Also to that point how far can I take things before Texturing/baking/sculpting? Edit - current state
Thanks! (lets never speak of that trigger again) Yep for those lines i used floaters. I'm not a strong hard surface modeler, so i find it much faster. I'm just trying to get a nice bake. The lighting in the render is really diffuse, so i got away with it.
