Thank you. I hoped to be able to demonstrate progression by persisting with it. I saw someone else's sketchbook before that was basically a complete journey from beginner to proficiency; I'd like to have something like that. Though in my case, it's more of a recovery from self-sabotaging perfectionism, pfft.
I was testing the rig out a bit for the face so decided to block in something. It actually really helped me spot the issues but I also had fun doing it and laughing at myself. I didn't have too many chances to animate where I was working Your browser does not support HTML5 video! https://i.imgur.com/NAFR67U.gifv
Personally I'm more interested in the business and politics part of gamedev, since, IMO, this is the most fragile part of our industry and is the most in need of improvement. Here are some of the people I follow for this: Individual contributors: https://www.youtube.com/@ChrisWilsonVideos…
I think it's really important to design a narrative before creating an image. What is the image trying to communicate to the viewer? Defining this will allow you to make decisions about how to arrange the scene, where to put the camera, how to light it, etc. Without a clear goal, the viewer is left wondering why they are…

This is a thing I started sketching a while ago, it's been a sort of go to project to open up and push some polygons around when I don't want to deal with my "main" projects. It's a redesign of Corporal Hart from timesplitters 2 in a more modern / realistic style. I don't really do a lot of sci fi so this is a fun change…
@Fabi_G, looking nice! The only issue I see with this method are little polygonal diamond shapes where the metal arcs are damaged: either it's the contrasting color in vertex color, or sharp edges, or both, but they look a bit too sharp. Especially compared to the similar shapes baked into the normal map. I realize these…

I made it as a standalone filter, you load it in your software (I usually use Substance Player) then input your un-normalized texture, set the parameters you want (output resolution, bit depth, and file format) and save the normalized file.
Some thoughts about learning, problem solving, and feedback. Answer this question honestly when it feels like you're falling behind on a project or stuck on a particular problem: how much are you learning and how much are you getting done? Each project has it's own unique challenges. Sometimes it takes more time to learn…
