Skeptical Nate: Nice work! Are these for a game? What angle will they be viewed from? If it's to be viewed from the top (Just basing that assumption on most tower defense games I've played) I think the difference might be hard to recognize...
Looks a little smudgy, Mephiston. I'd give the bark at least another pass with a hard edged brush on low opacity, using what you have already to pick colours from. Try and crisp it up a little.
You are a beast Nick, such inspiring work. Used sculptris for more than 15 minutes for a change! Pretty cool programme, find it so hard to get a clean result though. pooped out a mech! That leg isn't floating, honest.
Giles: Throw on a multiply layer with a burnt umber colour. After that use a soft edge brush with the eraser and slowly take away bits for the highlights. Increase the hardness sharper edges on the plane of the face :D It will look sweet with added contrast ;)
danitchu, that is freaking insane! I keep swearing up and down I won't yet start switching to do all my hard surface work in Zbrush, but that's pretty convincing. I'm jealous of your level of detail. Good luck with the retopo.
Also 4x 1024?! :O One 512 texture should suffice. You should set smoothing groups too, lots of hard edges between polys where the transition should be smooth (like the rounded corners and the main dial knobs).
MM.....Oh my god! beautiful. *EDIT* excelent hard surface modelling monolith sketching away, at blockout stage using Paul Richards darksiders stuff as reference......www.autodestruct.com like you didn't know the site :D - so much goodness! anyway.....
hey man do you have a blockout of the whole character? usually a good idea to make sure your whole body and proportions are blocked out before getting into the details, since it can be a pain to alter proportions on a high poly hard surface model.
I agree. The tip of the thumb would cross over an apex, er... hard to explain. Looks cool though! Seth: I was thinking an orcish type thing similar to something in LOTR, I know it's been done to death, but I've always wanted to give it a go :)
Mike, you are correct, and fast too :) Jbird, glad you like it man, thanks :) ups with clothes and some more work on the face. still not quite there though. Hes got a pretty round/chubby face and its hard to resist the usual muscle/anatomy shapes
