can you make a normals map for a high poly model? i want to add some detail to the side of my axe but i dont think i would be able to do it very well in 3ds max so i wanted to try make a normal map with photoshop to add some tribal swirls and stuff, i sort of know how to make normals maps but im not sure how to do it so…

Working on a weapon for a long running beta vehicle for UT2004 : Texture WIP, gotta add a ton of grime and smooth the nasty nasty shadow errors from the cheap light bake I did.
They are just mock ups. Yeah, I'm gonna go back and add a pattern to the bandanna I believe. I've had several people comment on it, so I will go back and attempt to fix that.

yep i agree, thats why i need to add some more loops there, and maybe remove some others, not happy with a few of them damn poles, expecially around the mouth :X
