The exporter can be pretty slow. What i would do is check and make sure there are no extra meshes or objects you dont intend to export(like a high poly mesh) as it will export those(even if they are hidden)too. Marmoset won't display your mesh correctly if you don't actually assign a material with textures loaded in it. In other words it's perfectly normal for it to not work properly until you apply some textures to the material.
